About Me

As a child I loved horses and dreamed of having one of my own. I would spend hours drawing and painting pictures of horses, which my mother allowed me to tape onto the walls in our home in praise of my simple efforts. All these years later, a horse still is the first image that comes to mind whether I am simply doodling or considering the subject for a painting. My dream of owning a horse did come true. A beautiful palomino; a gentle, but spirited bay; and a regal black Tennessee Walker occupied the stable that my husband built during the first year of our marriage. The stalls in our stable are now empty, but horses continue to be my favorite animal to paint, followed closely by dogs, cats and a variety of wildlife subjects.

Although I have painted for over 30 years, frequently the demands of raising a family and working a job left little time for artistic pursuits; there could be long breaks in between projects. Ah, retirement! Just as I waited many years to realize the dream of owning a horse, I have waited many more years to be able to devote significant time to creative pursuits. I hope that painting will be my road of discovery for many years to come. The people that I meet, the photos that I take, the places that I visit will influence the images that come to life on canvas. I am turning a new page in life with some old friends in the form of paints, brushes and canvas.

About ten years ago, I discovered the wonderful world of gourds. They are truly “nature’s art” and lots of fun to grow and craft into birdhouses. I hope you enjoy looking at the examples of my work.

I am a self-taught artist who began painting using oils, but now find that the characteristics of acrylic paint work better for me. I have studied with local artist, Irene Jesse Perry, as well as taken classes at local colleges to enhance my abilities.

It would be my pleasure to work with you to create a portrait of your special pet or other custom painting needs.

Thank you for looking.
